Personal comments: One time shining star Timothy Bottoms breaks your heart into a million pieces and Ben Johnson leaves a deep imprint on you in his oscar winning role as the Sam The Lion, still one of the best performances I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing. The Last Picture show is one of the saddest movies I’ve ever seen, but doesn’t reach for the easy melodrama, instead relies on soberness and solemness, disillusioned stares and the sad sound of the lonely wind in a lonely dying town where people stand in the way of their own happiness.
